Apple Shortcuts

Description

Runs any of your Apple Shortcuts from your iOS device. MetaGrid Pro discovers your library so any shortcut can be a button.

Apple Shortcuts ships with macOS 12 or later — no separate install needed.

Setup

MetaGrid Pro triggers Apple Shortcuts on your Mac with a single tap. Add the Apple Shortcuts action to any button macro, select the shortcut, and it runs on your Mac when you press the button.

Prerequisites

Organize your shortcuts into folders within the Apple Shortcuts application on your Mac. MetaGrid Pro reads these folders to present the list of available shortcuts.

Verify the Integration in MetaServer

Open MetaServer → Integrations → Apple Shortcuts. The page confirms Apple Shortcuts is detected and shows the integration's status. No installation is required — MetaServer reads your shortcuts library directly via macOS's built-in automation interface.

If MetaServer hasn't been granted Automation permission for the Shortcuts app, macOS prompts the first time you trigger a shortcut from MetaGrid Pro. Accept the dialog; no further configuration is needed.

Create an Apple Shortcuts Button

Step 1: Create a Button and Add a Macro

In Edit Mode, create a custom button and assign a macro.

Step 2: Add the Apple Shortcuts Action

Add the Apple Shortcuts action to the macro. MetaGrid Pro displays the folders and shortcuts from the Apple Shortcuts application on your Mac.

Step 3: Select the Shortcut

Navigate the folder structure and select the shortcut you want to trigger.

Step 4: Customize the Button

Add an icon and text to make the button recognizable on your grid.

Example: Open Downloads Folder

1. In Apple Shortcuts on your Mac, create a folder called "File Management."
2. Create a shortcut named "Show Downloads Folder" using the Folder action and Open Folder in Default Application.
3. In MetaGrid Pro, create a button with the Apple Shortcuts action.
4. Select File Management → Show Downloads Folder.
5. Tap the button to open your Downloads folder in Finder instantly.
