Backups & Restore

A backup is a full MetaGrid Pro database file. Use it to save everything, move to a new iPad, or recover after major changes. Restoring a backup replaces your current data.

Back Up Everything

A backup is useful before major edits, before moving to a new iPad, or before testing large imported presets.

1. Go to Settings > Data Management > Backups & Restore.
2. Tap Back Up.
3. Choose iCloud Drive, Share, or a cloud service.
4. Review the file name.
5. Tap Continue.

Backup files use the .mbackup extension.

You can change the default backup name in Backup File Name. You can also enable Add Date to Backup Name so the date is added automatically.

Restore from a Backup

Important: Restoring a backup replaces your current MetaGrid Pro data, including profiles, workspaces, and grids. This cannot be undone.

1. Go to Settings > Data Management > Backups & Restore.
2. Tap Restore.
3. Choose where the backup is stored.
4. Select the backup file.
5. Read the confirmation carefully.
6. Tap Restore only if you want to replace your current data.

After the restore finishes, MetaGrid Pro reloads the main screen with the restored data.

Restore a Backup File Sent to You

If you receive a .mbackup file through AirDrop, Files, Mail, or another app:

1. Open the file.
2. Choose MetaGrid Pro.
3. When MetaGrid Pro says the backup is ready, tap Restore Now if you want to restore immediately.

If you cancel, you can restore it later from Settings > Data Management > Backups & Restore > Restore > Shared, as long as the shared file is still available.

Scheduled iCloud Backups

Scheduled backups are configured in Settings > Data Management > Backups & Restore > iCloud Drive Scheduled Backup.

Note: Scheduled backups require iCloud Drive. If iCloud Drive is not available, MetaGrid Pro shows that scheduled backup is unavailable.

You can choose:

• Frequency: Never, Every Launch, Every Day, Every 3 Days, Every Week, or Every Month.
• Backup File Limit: how many scheduled backup files MetaGrid Pro keeps.

Scheduled backups run silently when MetaGrid Pro launches and a backup is due. They are saved to iCloud Drive with Scheduled in the file name. The file limit applies to scheduled backups only; manual backups are not removed by this setting.
