Copy, Paste, Style & Tiling
Copy, paste, style transfer, and tiling let you duplicate and style grid objects quickly. These tools work together to speed up grid creation and maintain visual consistency.
Copy and Paste
Step 1: Copy an Object
In Edit Mode, select an object (e.g., a button) and tap Copy in the Edit Bar.
Step 2: Select a Target
Navigate to the target location and select an object of the same type as the copied object.
Step 3: Paste
Tap Paste to replace the selected object with the copied one.
Paste to Multiple Objects
Step 1: Copy an Object
Copy the source object as described above.
Step 2: Select Multiple Targets
Drag your finger to select multiple objects of the same type.
Step 3: Paste
Tap Paste to replace all selected objects with the copied object.
Pro Tip: You can paste copied objects into empty slots. If enough empty slots are available, the Edit Bar displays Paste when you select an empty slot.
Important: You can only paste between objects of the same type. A copied button can be pasted onto another button, but not onto a label. If the types do not match, Paste and Paste Style will not appear in the Edit Bar.
Copy and Paste Style
The Copy & Paste Style feature transfers selected visual attributes from 1 object to others without affecting their macros, layout, or size. It is available for buttons (including switches), labels, and faders.
Step 1: Copy the Source Object
Select the object you want to copy from and tap Copy in the Edit Bar.
Step 2: Select Target Objects
Select 1 or more objects of the same type.
Step 3: Enter Paste Style Mode
Tap Paste Style in the Edit Bar. The Edit Bar changes to show Cancel, Apply, and Style Settings.
Step 4: Configure Style Settings
Tap Style Settings to open the Copy & Paste Style screen. Here you can:
- Choose the object type tab: Button, Fader, or Label.
- Select which properties to copy: background attributes, text color, icon color, border attributes, or effects.
- For buttons, select at least 1 state (Idle or Active) under Button States.
Pro Tip: Use Select All or Clear All to toggle groups of parameters quickly.
Step 5: Apply
Close the Copy & Paste Style screen and tap Apply to transfer the selected attributes to the target objects.
Tiling
Tiling duplicates a copied object across a selected area of empty slots, filling the space with evenly arranged copies. It is the fastest way to create a grid of identical buttons, faders, or labels.
Step 1: Copy an Object
In Edit Mode, tap the object you want to duplicate and tap Copy in the Edit Bar.
Step 2: Select Empty Slots
Drag to select an empty area on the grid. The Tile button appears in the Edit Bar, showing how many copies will fit (e.g., Tile (8)).
Step 3: Tile
Tap Tile. The selected area fills with duplicated objects, aligned to the grid.
The number shown on Tile depends on the copied object's dimensions. Larger objects fit fewer times within the selection. Tiling supports buttons, labels, and faders. Tap Undo at the top of the screen to revert if needed.
Practical Example: Create a MIDI Note Grid
Create 1 button, style it, and assign a MIDI Note action (e.g., C3). Copy it, select an empty area, and tap Tile to fill it. Then tap Paste Style, open Style Settings, and enable Idle State, Macro, and Note properties. Tap Apply. MetaGrid Pro automatically assigns consecutive MIDI notes to each button, producing a complete, styled MIDI pad grid.
