Guide/MetaGrid Pro Basics/Crafting Your First Button

Crafting Your First Button

Your default workspace starts with a 36-button grid. This guide walks through creating your first button — assigning a keyboard shortcut, choosing an icon, and styling the appearance.

Step 1: Enter Edit Mode

Tap Edit in the top-right corner. The grid enters Edit Mode, where you can select, move, resize, and customize any button or object.

Step 2: Select a Button

Tap any button you want to configure. It becomes highlighted and the Inspector appears on the right.

Pro Tip: Tap a section header to toggle it. Double-tap to expand or collapse all sections.

Step 3: Open the Macro Section

Open the Macro section in the Inspector. Tap the field for your OS (Mac or Windows).

Step 4: Add a Keyboard Shortcut Action

Tap the plus icon to open the Action Selector. Choose Keyboard Shortcuts.

Step 5: Configure the Shortcut

Select the key modifiers (Command, Shift, etc.) and enter the character. Tap Try to test the shortcut on your computer.

Pro Tip: You can combine multiple actions into a single macro — keyboard shortcuts, pauses, MIDI commands, and more. See Mastering Macros for details.

Step 6: Set the Button Layout

Open Button Layout and select an icon-with-text arrangement.

Step 7: Choose a Style Preset

In Style Presets, pick a button style. Customize the label text in the Text section.

Pro Tip: Tap the arrow to the right of the text field to insert the macro component name automatically.

Step 8: Add an Icon

Tap the image area and choose an icon from the built-in library or use the search function.

Pro Tip: You can add your own custom graphics. See Custom Icons for details.

Step 9: Adjust the Appearance

Fine-tune text and icon transparency, explore gradient fills under Background, and enable a border if desired.

Audible Feedback

MetaGrid Pro supports sound feedback on button presses.

Step 1: Open Sound Settings

Tap the profile icon in the top-left corner to open Settings.

Step 2: Choose a Sound Theme

In the Sounds & Animations section, select a sound theme.

Gesture pads have a separate Enable sound toggle that controls sound independently for each gesture, as long as a sound theme is selected.
