Custom Icons

MetaGrid Pro lets you personalize buttons and objects with your own custom icons. Icons can be served from a folder on your computer via MetaServer, or synced directly through iCloud Drive.

Icon Sources

MetaGrid Pro supports two custom icon sources. Choose your source in Settings > Interface > Custom Icons.

• Local Folder — MetaServer serves icons from a folder on your Mac or PC. Icons are synced automatically when you connect, and only changed files are transferred.
• iCloud Drive — MetaGrid Pro reads icons directly from your iCloud Drive. Changes sync in real time across all your devices.

Setting Up with MetaServer (Local Folder)

Step 1: Configure the Folder in MetaServer

On Mac, open MetaServer and go to Settings. Under Custom Icons, tap Choose Folder and select the folder containing your icon files.

On Windows, open MetaServer Setup and go to the Files tab. Under Custom Icons Folder, click ... to browse and select your folder.

Step 2: Select Local Folder on Your iPad

Open MetaGrid Pro and go to Settings > Interface > Custom Icons. Select Local Folder as the icon source.

Step 3: Connect

MetaGrid Pro requests your icon library from MetaServer when it connects. Icons are cached locally on your iPad, and MetaServer uses hash-based syncing to transfer only new or changed icons on subsequent connections.

Setting Up with iCloud Drive

Step 1: Place Icons in iCloud Drive

Add your icon files to:

iCloud Drive > MetaGrid Pro > Custom Icons

MetaGrid Pro creates this folder automatically. You can also create subfolders inside it to organize your icons.

Step 2: Select iCloud Drive on Your iPad

Open MetaGrid Pro and go to Settings > Interface > Custom Icons. Select iCloud Drive as the icon source.

Icons appear immediately and stay in sync as you add, remove, or update files in iCloud Drive.

Supported Format

MetaGrid Pro uses PNG as the icon format. Both MetaServer and iCloud Drive sources support PNG files exclusively.

The native icon size in MetaGrid Pro is 256x256 pixels. Icons of other sizes will work but are scaled to fit. To keep sync times fast and storage manageable, avoid oversized images — icons larger than 512x512 pixels add unnecessary bulk with no visual benefit on screen.

Pro Tip: Use PNG files with transparency for icons that need to blend with different button backgrounds and color tints.

Folder Structure

MetaGrid Pro supports a two-level folder structure: a root folder and optional subfolders. Icons in subfolders appear as separate categories in the icon picker.

Deeper nesting is not supported — only the first level of subfolders is recognized.

Pro Tip: Organize icons into subfolders by workflow or application. This keeps the icon picker fast and easy to navigate.

Using Custom Icons

Step 1: Enter Edit Mode

Tap Edit in the toolbar, then select a button to open the Inspector.

Step 2: Open the Icon Picker

Tap the image area in the Inspector to open the icon picker.

Step 3: Browse Custom Icons

Navigate to the Custom Icons tab. Your icons appear organized by subfolder. Use the search bar to find icons by filename across all sources.

Step 4: Select an Icon

Tap an icon to assign it to your button. The icon is stored directly in your grid, so it remains visible even when MetaServer is not connected.
