Cubase: LE Macros

Logical Editor (LE) macros let you trigger preset MIDI transformations in Cubase from MetaGrid Pro. The MetaGrid Pro integration ships ready-made LE presets that pair with the Generic Remote macro slots.

Install the LE Presets via MetaServer

Step 1: Open MetaServer

Open MetaServer → Integrations → Cubase (or Nuendo).

Step 2: Install Logical Editor Presets

In the Integration Components card, find the PLE / LE Presets section. Click Install on the Logical Editor presets row.

MetaServer writes the presets into the Earlier Presets/MetaGrid subfolder of Cubase's user-presets location for every detected Cubase version. The row turns green once installation finishes.

Step 3: Restart Cubase

If Cubase is running, quit and reopen it so the new presets load.

Set Up the Macro Slots

The LE macros pair with the Generic Remote macro slots. Both slots need to be imported into Cubase and pointed at in MetaServer:

  • See Generic Remote setup for the full XML import workflow.
  • In MetaServer → Integrations → Cubase, the Generic Remote Devices section needs Generic Remote macro 1 and Generic Remote macro 2 both pointing at their respective XML files.

Assign an LE Macro to a Button

Step 1: Create a Macro

Add a button in MetaGrid Pro and create a macro with a Cubase action.

Step 2: Select the LE Macro

In the action selector, navigate to the MetaGrid: LE macros category. Select the macro you want to trigger.

Assign Your Own LE Macros

The default macro slots (Macro 001–016) are unassigned placeholders. Map them to any Cubase command:

Step 1: Open the Generic Remote

Go to Studio → Studio Setup and select the Metasystem – Macros device.

Step 2: Select a Macro Slot

Click a Macro entry (e.g., Macro 001) in the lower half of the window.

Step 3: Assign a Command

In the Device column, select Command. In Channel/Category, select Process Project Logical Editor. In Value/Action, select your LE macro.

Important: The MetaSystem-provided LE macros are pre-assigned in Metasystem2.xml. This procedure is for your own custom macros.

Keep Macro Names in Sync

If you rename a macro in the Generic Remote (e.g., "Macro 001" → "Repeat Record"), use the Refresh button at the top of the MetaServer → Integrations → Cubase page so MetaServer re-reads the file. The renamed macros then appear in MetaGrid Pro's Cubase action list.
