Getting Started
MetaGrid Pro connects to your computer via MetaServer, a lightweight companion app. Setup takes a few minutes.
Install MetaServer
Step 1: Download MetaServer
Go to www.metagrid.app > Support and download MetaServer for Mac or Windows.
Step 2: Install MetaServer
Move MetaServer to your Applications folder (Mac) or Program Files folder (Windows). Open MetaServer. Its icon appears in your menu bar or taskbar.
Important: On macOS 10.14+, grant MetaServer permissions in System Preferences > Security & Privacy > Privacy > Input Monitoring. Enable the checkbox next to MetaServer.
Important: On Windows, you may need .NET Framework 3.5. If your antivirus flags MetaServer, whitelist it.
Connect Your Devices
Ensure both devices are on the same Wi-Fi network, or connect them with a USB cable.
Pro Tip: For USB on Windows, install Apple iTunes first.
Configure MetaGrid Pro
Step 1: Open MetaGrid Pro
Launch MetaGrid Pro on your iPad.
Step 2: Select Your Computer
At Available Computers, each device shows two action buttons: USB and Wi-Fi. Tap the transport you want to connect over. If a button is dimmed, that transport isn't reachable from your iPad right now (no cable, different Wi-Fi network, or MetaServer's USB-only mode). If no devices appear, tap Refresh.
Step 3: Add a Computer Manually (Optional)
Tap the plus button and choose Manual Setup or Scan QR Code, then follow the on-screen instructions.
Step 4: Start Using MetaGrid Pro
Select your computer. The dashboard opens with the default Desktop grid.
Pro Tip: To disconnect, tap the profile icon to open Settings, then select Disconnect in the Connection section.
Pro Tip: MetaServer supports up to 4 iPads simultaneously with no extra setup.
Smart Connectivity
- Auto-Reconnect: On launch, MetaGrid Pro discovers your saved computer and connects automatically over the same transport you used last time. If the saved transport isn't available, it falls back to the other one.
- Patient Discovery: A USB cable handshake can take a few seconds longer than Wi-Fi discovery. If your saved computer appears after the radar finishes, MetaGrid Pro still connects automatically — no need to tap.
- Memory Recall: After an accidental disconnection, MetaGrid Pro reconnects to the last computer used.
Offline Mode
Tap Offline at the bottom right of the Connection Screen to edit content without a computer connection.
