Grid Layouts

Grids in MetaGrid Pro are based on a 24x24 layout. You can merge, resize, move, and swap objects within this structure to build a custom interface that fits your workflow.

When you create a new grid, it is pre-populated with buttons based on the resolution you choose. Selecting 24x24 resolution creates an empty grid, exposing the underlying slot structure.

The Edit Bar

The Edit Bar appears in Edit Mode when you select 1 or more grid objects. It provides direct access to tools for arranging, resizing, copying, and refining your layout.

The Edit Bar updates based on your selection:

  • Tap a single button to see Copy, Split, Clear, and Show Inspector.
  • Select multiple objects or empty slots to see tools such as Add, Clear, or Tile.

Edit Bar Tools

Tool Description
Show Inspector Opens the Inspector to edit the selected object's properties, layout, or appearance.
Copy Copies the selected object(s) for reuse elsewhere on the grid or in other grids.
Paste Inserts the copied object(s) into the selected slot or replaces the selected object.
Paste Style Enters Paste Style mode to apply only selected visual properties to the target objects. See Copy, Paste, Style & Tiling for details.
Tile Duplicates the copied object across the selected area. See Copy, Paste, Style & Tiling for details.
Split Divides the selected object or merged area back into individual slots at the smallest grid resolution.
Clear Removes the selected object and restores the slot(s) to their default empty state.
Merge Combines adjacent selected slots into 1 larger object area.
Add Opens the object selector to add a new button, label, fader, or other grid object.

Clear Grid Space

Step 1: Select an Object

In Edit Mode, tap the object you want to remove.

Step 2: Tap Clear

Tap Clear in the Edit Bar. The object is removed, revealing empty base slots.

Resize Objects

Step 1: Drag the Resize Handle

Each grid object has an orange resize handle in the bottom-right corner. Long-press the handle and drag to make the object smaller or larger.

Step 2: Merge on Overlap (Optional)

When the resizing rectangle overlaps an existing grid object, it enters merge mode. Releasing your finger merges the 2 objects, and the overlapped object is removed.

Alternative: Use the Merge Button

Select a button and some empty slots by dragging your finger across them. Blue selection indicators appear. Tap Merge to combine them, enlarging the original button.

Pro Tip: MetaGrid Pro does not auto-resize an object's visual properties when you change its dimensions. You can manually adjust text, icons, and layout to get the exact appearance you want.

Swap Objects

Long-press 1 object and drag it over another. The border turns green. Release to swap the 2 objects' positions.

Move Objects

Long-press a button or object and drag it to a new location. You can also select multiple objects and drag them together. If the selection overlaps other objects, the frame turns red. Otherwise, it stays blue.

Add New Object Types

Step 1: Clear a Slot

Select an existing object and tap Clear to create empty space. Merge slots if needed.

Step 2: Add the Object

Select the empty slot, tap Add, and choose the object type (e.g., Label, Fader).

Smart Merge

Select empty slots and long-press to auto-generate an object. MetaGrid Pro predicts the object type based on selection size:

  • Small selections (typical button size) create a button.
  • Single-row selections create a label.
  • Tall selections (e.g., 3x8) create a fader.
  • Larger or custom-sized selections create an empty slot for you to fill manually.
