Description

Runs your Keyboard Maestro macros from your iOS device. MetaGrid Pro discovers your macro library so any macro can be a button.

Install Keyboard Maestro from stairways.com to enable the integration.

Setup

MetaGrid Pro triggers Keyboard Maestro macros directly, without requiring keyboard shortcuts or MIDI assignments. MetaServer communicates with Keyboard Maestro on your Mac to run any macro you assign to a button.

Prerequisites

• Keyboard Maestro must be installed on your Mac.
• MetaServer must have Automation permission for Keyboard Maestro. macOS prompts on first use; accept the dialog.

Verify the Integration in MetaServer

Open MetaServer → Integrations → Keyboard Maestro. The page confirms Keyboard Maestro is detected and shows the integration's status. No installation is required — MetaServer reads your macro library directly via macOS's automation interface once permission is granted.

Assign a Keyboard Maestro Macro to a Button

Step 1: Create a Custom Button

Create a new button in MetaGrid Pro. See Crafting Your First Button for details.

Step 2: Open the Macro Editor

Open the Inspector, select a macro for Mac, then tap the + icon to add a new action. Select Keyboard Maestro from the action list.

Step 3: Select a Macro

Your Keyboard Maestro macros appear organized into folders, matching the folder structure in Keyboard Maestro. Select a macro to assign it to the button.

If the list is empty, MetaServer does not have the required automation permissions to access Keyboard Maestro. Check System Settings → Privacy & Security → Automation and confirm MetaServer is allowed to control Keyboard Maestro.

Step 4: Test the Button

Close the Macro Editor and tap your button. The assigned Keyboard Maestro macro runs on your Mac.

Example: Desktop Management Buttons

You can create buttons that move applications between macOS desktops using Keyboard Maestro macros.

Step 1: Create a Folder in Keyboard Maestro

In Keyboard Maestro, create a folder called "Desktop Management" to organize your desktop-related macros.

Step 2: Create a Macro

Create a macro named "Move to Desktop 1" with the actions needed to move the active application to desktop 1.

Step 3: Assign the Macro in MetaGrid Pro

Create a button in MetaGrid Pro. In the macro configuration, navigate to the "Desktop Management" folder and select your macro. Add an icon and customize the button appearance.

Step 4: Repeat for Additional Desktops

Create similar macros and buttons for desktops 2 through 8 using the same process.

Tips

Pro Tip: Tap the Refresh button in the Keyboard Maestro action screen to reload your macro list after making changes in Keyboard Maestro.

Important: If a Keyboard Maestro macro is set to trigger only in specific applications, add MetaServer to the "Available in these applications" list in that macro's settings within Keyboard Maestro.
