Keyboard Shortcuts Catalog (Mac)
The Keyboard Shortcuts Catalog scans the currently focused macOS application and lists all menu commands that have keyboard shortcuts assigned. You can browse, search, and assign any shortcut to a button or gesture without typing the key combination manually.
When connected to MetaServer, MetaGrid Pro reads the active application's menu structure. MetaServer briefly opens each menu to map commands and their shortcuts. Your Mac's menus flash momentarily during this scan. No system settings are changed, and the process takes a few seconds.
Use the Keyboard Shortcuts Catalog
Step 1: Open the Macro Editor
Open the Macro Editor for any button or gesture in the gesture pad.
Step 2: Add a Keyboard Shortcut Action
Add the Keyboard Shortcut action and select it.
Step 3: Open the Catalog
Tap the Catalog icon on the right.
Step 4: Scan the Active Application
Press Refresh to scan the currently focused Mac application. MetaServer briefly displays the application's menus as it builds the catalog.
Step 5: Select a Command
When the scan completes, a searchable list of commands and their keyboard shortcuts appears. Select any command, and MetaGrid Pro inserts its shortcut into your macro automatically.
Example Workflow
To create a button for Logic Pro's "Export Selection" command without looking up the shortcut:
- Open the Macro Editor and add a Keyboard Shortcut action.
- Tap Catalog, then Refresh.
- Search for "Export Selection."
- Select it from the list. MetaGrid Pro fills in the correct shortcut.
- Tap Done. The button is ready.
Notes
- Mac only — The Keyboard Shortcuts Catalog relies on macOS's menu system and is not available on Windows.
- Focus-based scanning — The catalog reflects the menus of the app currently in focus. If you switch to a different app, press Refresh again to rebuild the list.
- Dynamic menus — Some applications change their menus based on context (e.g., certain tools or edit modes). If a command does not appear, activate the relevant mode in the app and refresh again.
