Macro Actions

MetaGrid Pro supports a range of macro action types. Each action type sends a specific command to your computer when the button is tapped.

Keyboard Shortcuts

Triggers a key combination on your computer. Specify the key and modifiers (Command, Shift, etc.).

On Mac, tap Record and press the desired key combination on your hardware keyboard within 8 seconds to capture it automatically.

Important: While recording, keystrokes are still sent to your computer and may trigger normal system or app actions.

Keyboard Shortcuts Catalog (Mac Only)

The Keyboard Shortcuts Catalog provides access to the complete list of keyboard shortcuts for menu commands in most Mac applications. See Keyboard Shortcuts Catalog for details.

Modifier Key Hold/Release

Holds or releases a modifier key (Command, Shift, Option, Control). Use this to keep a modifier active across multiple actions, then release it when done. Always pair a hold action with a corresponding release.

Mouse Action

Sends a mouse click to your computer. Choose the button (left, middle, or right) and the click type (click, hold, or release). Always pair a hold action with a release.

Text

Types specified text into the active application on your computer.

Pause

Inserts a delay between actions. Use this when the target application needs time to process the previous action before receiving the next one.

Activate Application

Switches to a specified application on your computer. MetaGrid Pro auto-assigns a relevant icon to the button when possible.

DAW-Specific Actions

Assigns DAW commands directly to buttons without requiring MIDI mapping or keyboard shortcuts. This gives you access to hundreds of commands from your iPad.

MetaGrid Pro provides full command sets for Cubase and Logic Pro, along with integration for Ableton Live. See DAW Integration and Logic Pro for details.

Keyboard Maestro Actions (Mac Only)

Triggers any Keyboard Maestro macro directly from MetaGrid Pro. You can assign macros to buttons without creating keyboard shortcuts, MIDI triggers, or additional actions inside Keyboard Maestro. See Keyboard Maestro for details.

Triggers any menu command in Mac applications from your iPad, without needing to assign or remember keyboard shortcuts. See Menu Commands for details.

Apple Shortcuts Actions

Runs a macOS Shortcut directly from MetaGrid Pro on your iPad.

Important: MetaGrid Pro recognizes only Shortcuts located in folders within the Shortcuts application on your Mac.

See Apple Shortcuts for details.

MIDI Note On/Off and Program Change

Sends MIDI Note On/Off and Program Change messages through a specified MIDI channel to the desired program or device.

MIDI Continuous Controller (CC)

Sends MIDI CC messages through a chosen MIDI channel. Control CC values via incremental/decremental adjustments or by cycling through predefined value ranges.

MIDI CC Step

Changes a MIDI CC value in steps on each button tap. Use the arrow button to set the direction (up or down), and adjust the CC Steps selector:

  • Select a single value to change the CC by that fixed amount on each tap.
  • Select multiple values to cycle through them sequentially as target points.

Pro Tip: Use MIDI CC Step to cycle through instrument articulations, effect levels, or automation states with precision.

UACC Actions

Triggers specific articulations in Spitfire Audio instruments using predefined UACC commands, matching Spitfire Audio's online specifications.
