System Access & Permissions
MetaServer requires specific macOS permissions to execute commands, communicate with applications, and discover devices on your network. The System Access page shows the status of each permission and provides buttons to grant them.
Required Permissions
Accessibility
Required to simulate keyboard shortcuts, mouse clicks, and other input on your Mac. Without this permission, macros from MetaGrid Pro will not trigger any actions.
Grant it in System Settings > Privacy & Security > Accessibility. MetaServer can also prompt you directly from the System Access page.
Automation
Required to send commands to DAWs and system apps. MetaServer requests Automation permission individually for each supported app the first time it sends a command.
The System Access page lists each app and its authorization status:
- System Events — required for AppleScript support
- Logic Pro, Cubase, Studio One, Digital Performer, Reaper, Ableton Live, Dorico — required for DAW-specific commands
Apps that have not been opened yet show "(not running)" and cannot be authorized until you launch them at least once.
Local Network
Required for MetaGrid Pro to discover MetaServer over Wi-Fi. macOS prompts for this permission when MetaServer first starts listening for connections.
Optional Permissions
Notifications
Enables macOS notifications when devices connect or disconnect. This is optional — MetaServer works without it.
Troubleshooting Permissions
If a permission was denied or stopped working, use the Troubleshoot link on the System Access page. This resets the permission entry and restarts MetaServer so macOS prompts you again.
Important: After resetting a permission, MetaServer restarts automatically. You do not need to manually relaunch it.
