Guide/MetaGrid Pro Basics/Smooth Navigation

Smooth Navigation

MetaGrid Pro provides 2 ways to move between grids: scenes and buttons. Both create access points that let you switch grids with a single tap.

Scenes appear on the sidebar. Every new profile starts with 1 grid and 1 matching scene.

Step 1: Create a New Scene

Enter Edit mode and tap Edit on the sidebar. Tap Add to create a new scene.

Pro Tip: Long-press and drag a scene in the sidebar to reorder it.

Step 2: Assign a Primary Grid

Tap the primary area in the new scene and select a grid. Give it a name and choose an icon for identification. Tap Done to save.

The new scene button appears on the sidebar. Tap it to switch to that grid.

Step 3: Assign a Secondary Grid (Optional)

Each scene can hold 2 grids: a primary and a secondary. The first tap on a scene button shows the primary grid. A second tap shows the secondary grid, indicated by a dot next to the scene icon. This provides quick alternation between 2 related grids.

You can assign a grid to any button, so tapping it switches the displayed grid.

Tap Edit, then select a button to open the Inspector. Under Secondary Action, select Display Grid and choose the target grid. Tap Done.

Tapping the button now displays the chosen grid. The corresponding scene button on the sidebar shows an underline, indicating the displayed grid differs from the scene's assigned grid.

Step 2: Return to the Previous Grid

To go back, you can:

  • Tap Back on the sidebar.
  • Tap the scene button to return to its assigned grid.
  • Set the button's secondary action to Go to Previous Grid, which triggers the action and returns to the previous grid in a single tap.

Grid Hierarchies

For profiles with many grids, you can build layered grid hierarchies to keep navigation organized. See Grid & Scene Access for advanced navigation options, including automatic grid switching via MIDI messages and Dynamic Focus Tracking.
