Importing, Exporting & Sharing

Use Import / Export / Share to move a single item — a profile, workspace, grid, button, macro, fader, label, XY Controller, pad, gesture pad, or color palette — in or out of MetaGrid Pro. For where files are stored and what each extension means, see File Locations & Types.

Export or Share One Item

1. Open the item you want to export.
2. Tap Share or Export.
3. Choose a destination:
   • Choose iCloud Drive, Google Drive, Dropbox, or OneDrive to save the file to that service.
   • Choose Share to open the iPad share sheet.
4. Check the file name.
5. Tap Continue.

If you chose a cloud service and a file with the same name already exists, MetaGrid Pro asks whether to replace it.

Tip: Use Share when you want to send a file directly to another iPad or another user. Use a cloud service when you want to store the file and import it later.

Import One Item from iCloud Drive or a Cloud Service

1. Open the correct place in MetaGrid Pro:
   • For profiles, workspaces, or grids, open the Content Manager.
   • For buttons, macros, faders, labels, pads, and other objects, enter Edit Mode, select the target object, and open its editor.
2. Tap Import.
3. Choose iCloud Drive, Google Drive, Dropbox, or OneDrive.
4. Select the file from the list. You can use the search field if there are many files.
5. Complete the import.

For profiles, workspaces, and grids, MetaGrid Pro shows a review screen before installing. For object-level imports, the content is applied to the object or editor you are currently working in.

Import a File Someone Sent You

If someone sends you a MetaGrid Pro file through AirDrop, Mail, Messages, Files, Dropbox, or another app:

1. Open the file on your iPad.
2. Choose Share or Open In, then select MetaGrid Pro.
3. MetaGrid Pro copies the file into its Shared import area.
4. Finish the import in MetaGrid Pro.

For profiles, workspaces, and grids, MetaGrid Pro may show a message that the item was received. Tap Preview to open the Content Manager and review it.

If you tap Later, import it soon from the matching Import > Shared screen. The Shared area is temporary and may be cleared when MetaGrid Pro starts again.

For object files, such as buttons, faders, labels, pads, macros, gesture pads, XY Controllers, and palettes, first select the object or editor where you want to use the file. Then tap Import > Shared and choose the file.

Installing Imported Profiles, Workspaces, and Grids

Profile, workspace, and grid imports include an install review screen.

Grid Import

The grid import screen lets you:

• Preview the grid.
• Rename the grid.
• Choose the destination profile.
• Choose the destination workspace.
• Turn on Create Grid With Scene if you want MetaGrid Pro to create a scene for the imported grid.

Tap Install. After installation, MetaGrid Pro selects the imported grid.

Workspace Import

The workspace import screen lets you:

• Rename the workspace.
• Review its description.
• See how many grids and scenes it contains.
• Choose the destination profile.

Tap Install. After installation, MetaGrid Pro selects the imported workspace.

Profile Import

The profile import screen lets you:

• Rename the profile.
• Review the workspaces included in the profile.

Tap Install. After installation, MetaGrid Pro selects the imported profile.

Name Conflicts

If an imported item has the same name as an existing item, MetaGrid Pro asks what to do.

• Tap Replace if you want the imported item to overwrite the existing one.
• Tap Cancel if you want to stop, rename the import, and try again.

Note: Some items cannot be overwritten. For example, core profiles cannot be replaced, and MetaGrid Pro prevents unsafe overwrites in Common Grids.
